A man sustained life-threatening injuries after a diesel tank exploded while being worked on near Mpophomeni on Tuesday.
Midlands EMS spokesperson Roland Robertson said rescue medics and emergency crews were dispatched to the scene following reports of an explosion.

On arrival, paramedics found a man in a critical condition with severe injuries.
“Advanced Life Support interventions were immediately initiated, and the patient was placed on a manual ventilator at the scene due to the critical nature of their injuries,” said Robertson.
He said medics worked to stabilise him before transporting them under continuous Advanced Life Support care to a nearby specialist hospital for further treatment.

The circumstances leading to the explosion remain unclear at this stage.
