Pietermaritzburg CBD partially closed as strike flares up again
A section of Chief Albert Luthuli Street, in front of the City Hall, has been blocked off after striking workers.
Pietermaritzburg residents have been urged to avoid the roads around City Hall and the AS Chetty building on Monday as strike action linked to the South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) flared up again.
A section of Chief Albert Luthuli Street, in front of the City Hall, has been blocked off after striking workers used waste and concrete blocks to obstruct the roadway.

Refuse has also been scattered outside the buildings on the roads and pavements.
The protestors were later seen singing and dancing as the demonstration continued in the CBD.
Motorists are being diverted away from the area, with traffic restricted while the roads remain closed.
South African Police Service (SAPS) members are on scene monitoring the situation and managing crowds.
