WATCH | Nkonyane family granted court order to exhume body

Family attorney Ntokozo Mkhabela said the court had ruled in favour of the family, allowing for the exhumation of Nkonyane's body.

The family of the late eNyonini Zion Church leader, Thami Nkonyane, has been granted a court order to exhume his remains following a ruling by the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Thursday.

The family’s legal battle follows claims that a coffin presented at Nkonyane’s funeral earlier this month contained bricks instead of his body.

Addressing the media outside the court, family attorney Ntokozo Mkhabela said the court had ruled in favour of the family, allowing for the exhumation of Nkonyane’s body.

Mkhabela, of NW Attorneys, said the judgment marked a significant development in the family’s legal battle and would allow them to proceed with the next steps as directed by the court.

The application was brought before the court by members of the Nkonyane family amid an ongoing dispute surrounding the late church leader’s burial.

The family had sought legal intervention to secure an order permitting the exhumation.
