IEC reports smooth voter registration weekend in KZN

The Electoral Commission said voter registration activities across the province are proceeding smoothly, with no major incidents reported on the second day of the registration weekend.
Ntombifuthi Masinga, IEC Provincial Electoral Officer for KZN confirmed that operations at voting stations have been stable since opening, with all logistical systems functioning as planned and no disruptions affecting voter access.
Masinga said that Saturday’s minor operational issues have largely been resolved, which included the late delivery of tents for temporary voting stations due to protests on the N2 near Harding Municipality.

She said Sunday’s process has started on a steady footing across the province and temporary voting stations, including those using tents, are fully operational, with structures in place and stations open to the public.
Masinga added that voting stations will be in operation until 5 pm, with voters encouraged to make use of the opportunity to register or update their details ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections.
Masinga also commended the thousands of people deployed across more than 5 000 voting stations nationwide who have ensured an efficient and accessible registration process.

Voters are also urged to verify their registration details online or via the IEC contact centre, including SMS checks to confirm ward information where applicable.
The IEC has thanked all stakeholders for their cooperation and support, saying the registration weekend continues to play a vital role in strengthening democratic participation across South Africa.
