WATCH | Amabutho leader appeals for calm during anti-illegal immigration march

Mkhize said the organisers were working closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure the protest remained peaceful and within the confines of the law.

The induna of East Street Hostel and Amabutho leader, Lindokuhle Mkhize, has appealed to marchers and Pietermaritzburg residents to refrain from violence during Tuesday’s demonstration against illegal immigration.

Addressing hundreds of Amabutho members during the march through the Pietermaritzburg CBD, Mkhize said the organisers were working closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure the protest remained peaceful and within the confines of the law.

“We are working with the police to make sure that no unlawful activities take place during this demonstration,” he told the crowd.

Mkhize also urged residents not to loot businesses or destroy public and private infrastructure, saying such actions would undermine the purpose of the demonstration.

His call came as large groups of Amabutho marched through the city centre, where police maintained a visible presence to monitor the protest and ensure public safety.
