Baby boy abandoned outside Umlazi house

The baby's umbilical cord and placenta were still attached when he was found. Despite the circumstances, the infant appeared to be in good health.

A newborn baby boy was found abandoned outside a home on Vusi Mtshali Drive in R Section, Umlazi, on Saturday night.

According to Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), the infant was discovered wrapped in a blanket outside the front door of a residence after the homeowner returned from work.

The baby’s umbilical cord and placenta were still attached when he was found. Despite the circumstances, the infant appeared to be in good health.

The resident immediately alerted the relevant authorities at about 9.30 pm. However, by 11.32 pm, no emergency services had arrived at the scene, prompting RUSA to appeal for assistance.
