These are the coldest places in KZN this winter so far

The icy conditions formed part of a widespread cold spell that swept across the province, bringing freezing mornings, frost and, in some areas, snowfall.

KwaZulu-Natal experienced some of its coldest temperatures of the winter season during the first week of July, with several areas recording sub-zero minimum temperatures.

According to the South African Weather Service (SAWS), Shaleburn recorded the province’s lowest temperature so far this winter, plunging to -8.5°C on July 4.

Mooi River followed with -6.7°C, while Royal Natal dropped to -3.5°C. Ladysmith recorded a minimum of -2.0°C, with Ixopo reaching -0.6°C a day earlier on July 3.

The coldest temperatures recorded in KwaZulu-Natal this winter so far are:

  • Shaleburn: -8.5°C (July 4)
  • Mooi River: -6.7°C (July 4)
  • Royal Natal: -3.5°C (July 4)
  • Ladysmith: -2.0°C (July 4)
  • Ixopo: -0.6°C (July 3)

Motorists and residents in affected areas were urged to exercise caution during the severe winter weather, particularly during the early morning hours when icy roads and reduced visibility posed additional risks.
