Cats and kittens thrown from moving vehicle near Verulam

Several cats and kittens were thrown from a moving vehicle on the R102 between Verulam and Ottawa on Saturday morning, leaving at least two animals dead.

Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) said it received information about the incident at approximately 10:56 am from a Brindhaven resident who was travelling southbound on the road.

The woman reported seeing occupants of a vehicle travelling in the same direction, allegedly throwing the animals from a window while driving at high speed.

She was unable to provide further details about the vehicle.

Reaction officers were dispatched to search the area and found an adult brown and ginger cat dead in the fast lane.

A grey kitten was found dead approximately 400 metres further along the road.

Rusa said officers were continuing to search the stretch of road for other cats and kittens, amid concerns that some could still be alive and require urgent veterinary treatment.
