Police nab 717 wanted suspects in crime crackdown

Gauteng police arrested 717 wanted suspects, including 137 accused of crimes against women and children, during a high-density Operation Shanela II in Johannesburg.

Police also arrested 24 motorists for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, while 21 undocumented foreign nationals were taken into custody.

Four suspects were arrested for possession of drugs and two for allegedly tampering with essential infrastructure. Four liquor outlets were also shut down for contravening the Liquor Act.

In addition, a Toyota Quantum was impounded after police discovered that its engine number had allegedly been tampered with.
