Smoke blankets PMB as landfill fire remains under control

Visible smoke continues to blanket parts of Pietermaritzburg as firefighting operations remain under way..

The New England Road Dumpsite is on fire, sending thick smoke across large parts of Pietermaritzburg on Monday morning.

Msunduzi Municipality Deputy Chief Fire Officer Shaheen Ballim said the fire is under control and multiple teams are on scene.

The fire is being contained. We have 10 firemen on scene.

“We have graders and water tankers being used to fight the fire,” said Ballim.
