Two arrested with tik and mandrax in drug bust

Police said officers were patrolling Halmans Walk on Tuesday when they noticed a suspicious man who changed direction after spotting a marked police vehicle.

Two suspects are due to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday after they were arrested for possession of drugs during Operation Lockdown III in Hanover Park in Western Cape.

Police said officers were patrolling Halmans Walk on Tuesday when they noticed a suspicious man who changed direction after spotting a marked police vehicle.

The 32-year-old was stopped and searched, with officers allegedly finding 31 sachets of tik in his possession. He was arrested on a charge of possession of drugs.

In a separate operation, officers searched a property in Athburg Walk, where they recovered 35 mandrax tablets.

A 24-year-old woman was arrested and charged with possession of drugs.

Both suspects were expected to make their first court appearance in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, July 15.
