Afternoon traffic update:
Motorists are advised of multiple incidents causing delays on major routes across Durban and surrounding areas on Friday afternoon.
On the N3 southbound, a crash before the St James Avenue (Pavilion) interchange has resulted in road closures, while a separate crash after the M13 (Paradise Valley) has obstructed both the left and right lanes, causing significant congestion.
Earlier, a crash before the Pavilion interchange had already blocked the right and middle lanes, worsening traffic flow in the area.
On the N2 northbound, a stationary vehicle before the Umhlanga interchange has closed the left lane, while another stationary vehicle before the EB Cloete interchange is also obstructing the left lane.
Authorities have urged motorists to drive with caution and expect delays on these routes.
Meanwhile, road users are also reminded of planned closures on Sunday for the ISUZU IRONMAN 70.3 Durban event.
Major routes including the M4 Ruth First Highway, Snell Parade and sections of Battery Beach Road will be fully closed between 5am and 2pm, with partial lane closures on key connecting routes.
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and consider alternative routes.

Motorists may experience slow-moving traffic between Pietermaritzburg and Durban, with traffic moving slowly between Market Road and Ashburton.

From Friday, the South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (Sanral) will be installing a temporary pedestrian overpass at Gladys Manzi Road.
The N3 northbound carriageway, from Durban towards Pietermaritzburg, will be closed from 9 pm on Friday, June 5, until 1 am on Saturday, June 6.
The southbound carriageway, travelling from Pietermaritzburg towards Durban, will be closed from 9 pm on Friday until 5 am on Saturday.
According to Sanral, the N3 between the Armitage Road exit and Cedara interchange will be closed on Saturday from 8 pm to 4:30 am on Sunday for luminance testing.
The N3 northbound from M13 (Paradise Valley) Exit to M7 (Pinetown) interchange will be closed from Friday to Sunday from 8 pm to 4:30 am for the removal of bridge parapets.
