PMB School of Fashion celebrates Top 10 finalist

Pillay advanced to the Top 10 finalists in KwaZulu-Natal and will now compete on the final runway at the Hollywoodbets Durban July.

The School of Fashion Pietermaritzburg is celebrating after one of its talented designers, Kiyaan Pillay, was selected as a Top 10 finalist in the prestigious Hollywoodbets Durban July Young Designer Award 2026.

Pillay’s design stood out among more than 140 entries submitted by students from eight accredited fashion institutes across South Africa.

After impressing judges during the first round of the competition, his design secured a place among the Top 25 looks showcased at the Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge held at the Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse this past weekend.

From there, Pillay advanced to the Top 10 finalists in KwaZulu-Natal and will now compete on the final runway at the Hollywoodbets Durban July, on July 4, for the coveted title of Young Designer of the Year.

The School of Fashion Pietermaritzburg’s Nivasha Bhika-Beharie raised Pillay for his dedication and commitment to excellence.

Kiyaan’s hard work, dedication and eye for excellence shine through in everything he creates. Making it into the Top 10 of this competition is no small feat and is proof of his talent, passion and perseverance.

“We could not be prouder of what he has achieved,” said Bhika-Beharie.

The institution also congratulated all of its emerging designers who continue to make their mark in the fashion industry.

“Their creativity and innovation are shaping the future of South African fashion, and it is brighter than ever,” she said.

Special recognition was also given to Tyla Gunter from Irene’s Model Agency, whose professionalism and runway presence helped bring Pillay’s design to life during the showcase.

The Hollywoodbets Durban July Young Designer Award remains one of South Africa’s leading platforms for emerging fashion talent, and Pillay’s achievement highlights the growing reputation and strength of training at the School of Fashion Pietermaritzburg.
