Much sought-after rugby win for College on Reunion Day
As the final whistle sounded, the celebrations reflected more than just the result. It was a victory that showcased the values synonymous with College's rugby.
Maritzburg College welcomed one of its oldest local rivals to Papes on Reunion Day.
With many old boys in attendance, the pressure placed on the College boys to perform was surmountable.

The expectation placed on the boys set up the anticipation of a good performance.
The College boys started off poorly by rolling the ball back into their own half to a waiting Hilton attacker, who picked up the ball and drew a foul from an incoming College defender.
The penalty corner was awarded by the umpire. The Hilton player scored the opening goal from a straight hit. A few minutes later Hilton were awarded another penalty corner from yet another mistake from a College player.
Hilton scored their second goal in the same manner. The College boys were on the back foot and would need to dig deep. College were awarded a penalty corner late in the first quarter. A well worked variation unfortunately hit the post.
College were really good in possession and created a fair amount of opportunities in Hilton’s circle, unfortunately College did not manage to breach the Hilton defense.
The College boys fought hard to create a few more opportunities late in the game, but lady luck was not on their side as they hit the cross bar with yet another variation.

The game would end in a 3-0 loss.

College Rugby boys produced a courageous and disciplined performance to secure a memorable 14-9 victory over Hilton College on a special Reunion Day at Goldstones.
In front of a passionate crowd of Old Collegians, parents, supporters and the wider College community, the Red, Black and White rose to the occasion with a display built on determination, defensive resilience and clinical finishing.
The match was fiercely contested from the opening whistle, with both sides battling for territory and possession.

While opportunities were limited, College made the most of the chances that came their way, converting two key scoring opportunities into points that ultimately proved decisive. What stood out most, however, was the defensive effort of the Maritzburg College side.
Time and again, Hilton tested the College defensive line, only to be met by a wall of commitment, physicality and teamwork.
The boys showed tremendous character under pressure, making crucial tackles and working tirelessly for one another throughout the contest.
The atmosphere added another dimension to an already significant fixture. Reunion Day brought generations of Old Collegians back to Goldstones, creating a magnificent backdrop for one of the school’s most anticipated rugby occasions.
The unwavering support from the College faithful provided tremendous encouragement as the boys fought for every metre.
