Police arrest 773 suspects during Operation Shanela
Police arrested 10 undocumented immigrants at a roadblock and detained 24 motorists for alleged drunken driving.
A high-density Operation Shanela II led by Gauteng police commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni resulted in dozens of arrests in Randfontein and Mohlakeng, while hundreds of wanted suspects were also apprehended across the province.
During the operation, police arrested 10 undocumented immigrants at a roadblock and detained 24 motorists for alleged drunken driving.

Other arrests included 16 suspects for possession of drugs, two for allegedly selling alcohol without licences, one suspect for possession of gold-bearing material, two suspects for possession of firearms and ammunition, and two suspects for possession of suspected stolen property.
Police also conducted compliance inspections at businesses in the area, leading to the closure of two liquor outlets for failing to comply with regulations.
Provincial detectives arrested 773 suspects overnight across Gauteng, including 149 linked to crimes against women and children.

Police said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to combat crime and improve safety in communities across the province.
