Westville man granted bail after alleged road rage stabbing

As part of his bail conditions, Pillay was warned not to travel to Copesville, communicate with the victim, or contact any witnesses.

Kubendran Pillay (40) was granted R5 000 bail following his first appearance in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on a charge of attempted murder relating to an alleged road rage incident.

He is accused of stabbing Elton Pillay (35) with a sharp object near Armitage Road on Saturday morning.

Kubendran Pillay, dressed in a jersey and pants, listened carefully as Pietermaritzburg Magistrate Sandile Ngwenya explained the charges against him.

The court heard that Pillay has no previous convictions or pending cases.

As part of his bail conditions, Pillay was warned not to travel to Copesville, communicate with the victim, or contact any witnesses linked to the matter.

In his bail application, Pillay submitted that he is an IT lecturer at Mangosuthu University of Technology and has been employed there for the past year.

A close family friend, Mandy Ramsunder, said Elton, his fiancée and his 10-year-old niece were left traumatised following the incident.
