Mountain Rise police arrest 20 suspects in weekend crime crackdown

Mountain Rise police arrested 20 suspects during a weekend crime prevention operation aimed at curbing criminal activity in the policing precinct.
According to spokesperson Warrant Officer Pancheal Singh, the operation, which ran from Friday, June 12, to Sunday, June 14, targeted identified crime hotspots linked to serious offences in the area.

The arrests were made for a range of offences, including assault, possession of drugs, contravention of the Domestic Violence Act, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, malicious damage to property, theft, selling liquor without a licence, possession of dangerous weapons, breach of the peace, drunken driving, and reckless and negligent driving.
During the first phase of Operation Shanela 2, officers conducted stop-and-searches, targeted dangerous weapons and firearm-related crimes, raided illegal liquor outlets, carried out compliance inspections and conducted blue-light patrols in hotspot areas.

The second phase focused on high-density operations and roadblocks at strategic points across the policing area.
