Vaal River drowning: Rescue teams recover last missing victim

Authorities further confirmed that all six bodies believed to have been involved in the drowning incident have now been recovered.

After days of intensive searching, the body of a 25-year-old man who reportedly drowned in the Vaal River near Douglas has been recovered by Provincial Search and Rescue teams.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed that the body was retrieved on Friday at approximately 12 pm, bringing closure to a multi-day search operation in the area.

Authorities further confirmed that all six bodies believed to have been involved in the drowning incident have now been recovered.

The search operation had been ongoing since June 18 under challenging conditions, with teams previously forced to suspend efforts due to poor visibility before resuming expanded operations.

SAPS said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the drowning are continuing.
