Speaker leads GBV awareness drive in Ward 12
The programme aimed to raise awareness about GBV, empower women and connect residents with support services available in the community.
Msunduzi Municipality Speaker Councillor Eunice Majola recent;y hosted the Qina Mbokodo Speakers Public Engagement Programme at Thuthukha Hall in Ward 12, bringing together government departments and community organisations to tackle gender-based violence (GBV) and support women.
Ward 12 councillor Masoeu welcomed guests and thanked Majola for bringing the programme to the area, saying he was honoured to host an initiative focused on such a critical social issue.
The programme aimed to raise awareness about GBV, empower women and connect residents with support services available in the community.

Majola said collective action was needed to protect vulnerable groups and build safer communities.
“Through collaboration and community engagement, we can create safer spaces where women are protected, respected, and empowered,” she said.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) addressed residents on community safety and the prevention of gender-based violence, while support organisations including Izwi Labafelokazi and Isozo Community Centre outlined the assistance they provide to people in need.

The Electoral Commission of South Africa encouraged civic participation and voter education, while Esigodini Clinic shared information on healthcare services, GBV support and referral pathways.
The Department of Social Development also addressed social challenges affecting families and highlighted support services available to communities.
