uMgungundlovu Men’s Indaba focuses on leadership and fatherhood

Held under the theme "Empowering Men to be Leaders, Carers and Protectors", the indaba forms part of activities marking Men's Month, observed nationally every July.

Hundreds of men from across the uMgungundlovu District are expected to gather at Project Gateway in Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday for the 2026 uMgungundlovu District Men’s Indaba, an event aimed at promoting responsible leadership, fatherhood and the protection of families and communities.

Held under the theme “Empowering Men to be Leaders, Carers and Protectors”, the indaba forms part of activities marking Men’s Month, observed nationally every July.

The event has attracted men from various communities across the district, as well as representatives from several men’s organisations, including Inkunzi Isematholeni, who are expected to engage in discussions on the role of men in building safer, healthier and more resilient communities.

uMgungundlovu District Municipality Mayor Mzi Zuma is expected to deliver the keynote address, focusing on the importance of positive masculinity, accountability and community leadership.

Richmond Municipality Mayor Melikhaya Ngcongo is also expected to address delegates during the programme.

The gathering is expected to explore issues affecting men and boys, including fatherhood, gender based violence, mental health, youth mentorship and the responsibility of men in strengthening families and supporting community development.

Proceedings are expected to get under way later this morning, with various speakers and stakeholders set to share strategies aimed at empowering men to become active agents of positive change within their communities
