Two arrested in operations targeting extortion and drugs
Police monitored the suspect’s movements before descending on an address in Winnie Mandela Drive, Langa, at about 10 pm.
A 21-year-old man, who police allege is linked to an extortion group, has been arrested in Langa in the Western Cape for possession of prohibited firearms.
The arrest was carried out on Wednesday night by members of Operation Lockdown III, Crime Intelligence and the SAPS drone unit after information was received about a suspect allegedly collecting protection fees from spaza shops in the area.

Two pistols without serial numbers and nine rounds of ammunition were confiscated during the operation.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court once charged.
In a separate operation in Belhar, police arrested a 22-year-old woman after drugs were found at a house in Avon Close.

Members searched the property following intelligence about suspected illegal activity and discovered a black shopping bag containing 120 sachets of tik and 64 mandrax tablets in a backroom.
The woman is expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on charges relating to possession of drugs.
