Police swoop as Madlanga Commission evidence triggers arrests
Sources reported that police spent about three hours negotiating with Dawood’s lawyers before he agreed to hand himself over at the Sandton Police Station.
High drama unfolded in Johannesburg on Friday as law enforcement agencies moved against police officers implicated in alleged criminal activity exposed during the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
A warrant of arrest was issued for senior Crime Intelligence officer Colonel Ismael Dawood, while the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) arrested a metro police inspector who previously testified before the commission under the name “Witness K”.
Police raided Dawood’s home in Sandhurst, Johannesburg, on Friday.

According to sources quoted by eNCA, police spent about three hours negotiating with Dawood’s lawyers before he agreed to hand himself over at the Sandton Police Station.
However, Dawood allegedly failed to arrive at the station as agreed. His whereabouts were not immediately known, and police had yet to announce whether he had subsequently been arrested.
The allegations against Dawood and the basis for the warrant were not immediately disclosed.
In a separate development, Ipid arrested Witness K in connection with the alleged theft of precious stones worth R14.9 million from a Killarney apartment in Johannesburg in 2023.
The inspector previously testified in camera before the Madlanga Commission, alleging that the supposed police operation at the apartment had, in fact, been a planned robbery.
Witness K alleged that officers entered the property under the guise of conducting a legitimate law-enforcement operation before stealing the precious stones.
