PICS | Msunduzi, community unite to rebuild fire-damaged home
The project was intended to provide the family with a safe and comfortable home while restoring a sense of dignity and hope following the fire.
A family in Imbali Unit 18 in Pietermaritzburg has been given a fresh start after Msunduzi Municipality and several community organisations joined forces to repair their home, which was badly damaged in a candle fire.
The initiative, undertaken in the spirit of Mandela Day, was led by the municipality’s Imbali Area-Based Management unit and brought together businesses, community groups and public institutions.

The restoration work included replacing the roof, installing windows and doors, repairing damaged sections of the house, painting the property and tiling the floors.
