Letters | Starmer to go, but CR remains
"Both Britain’s prime minister and our president have been involved in a scandal. Starmer has resigned but Ramaphosa won’t."
I wonder if any readers’ minds wandered across to England in recent weeks and saw how that once proud nation was being shaken by political turmoil.
Ever since British Premier Keir Starmer was implicated in a political scandal as he appointed Peter Mandelson as British ambassador to the United States even though he knew Mandelson was linked to convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, he was under pressure to vacate 10 Downing Street.
Things got worse when his Labour Party fared badly in local elections and there was rebellion within his party with four of his cabinet ministers resigning, including Health Secretary Wes Streeting. As pressure mounted, Starmer buckled and announced that he will resign on September 1.

Britain is churning out prime ministers. In the past 10 years there have been six different prime ministers in Britain, with the seventh coming soon. So unlike the Rainbow Nation, where leaders cling to power no matter how poorly they perform.
Look at our president who, despite being smeared so badly by the Phala Phala scandal, still clings to power.
He does not want to accept the Constitutional Court ruling that found Parliament’s initial rejection of the impeachment findings illegal and has launched an urgent application in the Western Cape High Court to halt the impeachment proceedings.
Ramaphosa who, like his predecessor Jacob Zuma, has turned out to be a great disappointment to the country. He is incapable of leading the country out of the morass it finds itself in, despite 30 years of ANC rule. Both Britain’s prime minister and our president have been involved in a scandal. Starmer has resigned but Ramaphosa won’t.
