WATCH | Mayor confirms PMB Malawian repatriation centre closure

Thebolla thanked residents living near the temporary centre for their patience and understanding during the operation.

Pietermaritzburg Mayor Mzimkhulu Thebolla has announced that the city’s emergency repatriation centre for displaced Malawian nationals has officially closed after all occupants were successfully transferred to the national processing centre in Musina, Limpopo.

Speaking in a video update, Thebolla thanked residents living near the temporary centre for their patience and understanding during the operation.

He also expressed gratitude to community members, volunteers and aid organisations who provided humanitarian support, as well as the provincial government, various government departments and municipal staff who assisted throughout the process.

The mayor said the coordinated effort ensured the safe relocation of all Malawian nationals while maintaining order and dignity.

Municipal workers will now begin cleanup operations at the site as the city restores the area to normal use.
