Kosi Bay traffic clears as uMkhanyakude march remains peaceful
The congestion developed earlier in the day as large numbers of foreign nationals made their way to the border.
Traffic on the R22 to the Kosi Bay Border Post near Manguzi returned to normal on Tuesday after hours of congestion caused by foreign nationals travelling to Mozambique amid nationwide demonstrations against illegal immigration.

Authorities said the backlog was cleared within a few hours, while marches held in towns across the uMkhanyakude District passed without major incidents.
Leading Operation Sukuma Sakhe in the district, KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Thembeni KaMadlopha-Mthethwa, said she was satisfied with the peaceful conduct of marchers.
“I would like to thank the President of the Republic, the Premier and the uMkhanyakude District leadership for ensuring that we were well prepared to maintain peace and order,” she said.
All the marches, though scaled down, were peaceful. The traffic to the border was also cleared within a few hours.

KaMadlopha-Mthethwa, together with Operation Sukuma Sakhe leadership and uMkhanyakude District Municipality Mayor Councillor S. Mdaka, also met officials from the Border Management Authority to assess the situation at the Kosi Bay Border Post and monitor stability along the border
