Inquest opened after foreign national dies in fall from Durban building

KwaZulu-Natal police said Durban Central police have opened an inquest docket following the incident.

A foreign national died after allegedly jumping from the eighth floor of a building on Margaret Mncadi Avenue in Durban on Monday night amid fears that he was being targeted.

Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said preliminary reports indicate that three foreign nationals had allegedly broken into a storage facility and had been staying there for three days.

On Monday night, they reportedly heard noises and concluded that they were being targeted.

“One of them jumped from the eighth floor and sustained broken limbs. He was declared dead at the scene,” said Netshiunda.

He said one of the other occupants fled the scene while the third remained behind.

Netshiunda added that the immigration status of the deceased and the remaining individual is still being verified as part of the investigation.

Police investigations are continuing.
