WATCH | Pastor arrested for alleged drunk driving on way to St Lucia baptism

The incident unfolded on the R618 near St Lucia when Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) officers pulled over the pastor, who was travelling with members of his congregation following behind on Sunday morning.

A pastor’s journey to St Lucia Beach for a cleansing ceremony and baptism ended in a police cell after he was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

The incident unfolded on the R618 near St Lucia when Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) officers pulled over the pastor, who was travelling with members of his congregation following behind on Sunday morning.

According to the Department of Transport, officers became suspicious after detecting a strong smell of alcohol coming from the vehicle during the stop.

A breathalyser test was administered, which reportedly returned a reading of 0.360% blood alcohol content, well above the legal limit.

The pastor was immediately arrested for drunk driving.

The Pastor responded by citing by citing a bible John 1:9, if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness,”

RTI officials confirmed that the arrest forms part of ongoing operations targeting drunk driving over the weekend.

RTI has already arrested 33 motorists for drunk driving this weekend.
