Malawi begins repatriating nationals from Durban

Disaster management officer from the Malawian Embassy, Adam Ali, on Sunday afternoon told The Witness that they were loading the second of the eight busses.

Eight buses from the Malawian government have started loading malawian nationals who have opted to leave South Africa following threats of the anticipated June 30 deadline by organisations against illegal migrants.

The Malawians have gathered in Sherwood, Durban, since June 7.

At the time, only about 500 people were gathered in the area’s community hall, but by Sunday afternoon, area councilor Warren Burn said the numbers had increased to around 10 000.
