Police investigate murder and attempted murders after pharmacy shooting

Police said officers responded to reports of an active shooting at the pharmacy at about 11.20 am.

Qumbu police are investigating a case of murder and two counts of attempted murder following a shooting at a pharmacy in Sejoseng Business Centre in the Eastern Cape on Saturday

Police said officers responded to reports of an active shooting at the pharmacy at about 11.20 am.

On arrival, they found a 26-year-old man dead behind the counter.

Two other people survived the attack. One sustained injuries to the lower body and was taken to hospital for treatment, while the other escaped physically unharmed.

It is alleged that the three victims had gone to the pharmacy to buy masks when gunfire suddenly erupted as they attempted to enter the premises.

Police added the victims took cover inside the pharmacy, but the shooting continued for some time before the suspect or suspects fled the scene.

Nothing was stolen from either the victims or the pharmacy.

Crime scene investigators recovered multiple rifle cartridges, projectiles and sealed bullets at the scene.

The motive for the shooting has not yet been established. No arrests have been made and the suspects remain at large.
