WATCH | Kusche storms to victory as Wiersma takes second place

Wiersma held on strongly to finish in second place after a hard-fought battle at the front.

Nedbank Running Club athlete George Kusche has won this year’s Comrades Marathon in a winning time of 5 hours and 16 minutes.

Kusche, who is managed by Nick Bester, made his decisive move around the iconic Polly Shortts climb, where he took over the lead. From there, he controlled the race all the way to the finish, holding his pace to secure a memorable victory.

Wiersma held on strongly to finish in second place after a hard-fought battle at the front.

The race delivered a dramatic finale as the leading pack split in the final stages, with Kusche proving strongest when it mattered most to claim the 2026 Comrades Marathon title.
